[Solved] Server not starting, and no logs

Hi, I have YaCy running locally on macOS and it works perfectly, but when I try to run it on Ubuntu 26 using the full Unix instructions, startYACY.sh exits after a few seconds without logs.

If I look at the systemctl logs it just says:

Could it be to do with the user permissions in the instructions? The DATA directory didn’t even exist so I guess it’s failing to create it, and I have created it manually. All of the files are owned by the yacy admin user except that DATA/LOGS file which I assigned to the regular yacy user.

Any ideas how I can debug it further? Thanks!

It turns out that Git had detected the different user permissions and failed to finish building YaCy. I needed to add:

git config --global --add safe.directory /home/yacy

and rerun the ant command. Now it’s running. Thanks for the project, I’m looking forward to using it
